Search Idaho Traffic Court Records
Filed Idaho citations appear in the iCourt Portal. Smart Search accepts a citation or case number and defendant name, with county, case-type, and date filters. Public results may show charges, statutes, agency, filing date, plea, disposition, hearings, judge, fines, payments, failure to appear, and warrant events. The filing county clerk supplies certified dispositions and documents.
Use the number printed on the citation when possible. A name search can return several people, while a new ticket may not yet be loaded. Call the Magistrate clerk when iCourt shows a mandatory appearance, warrant, or hold, or when a certified record is needed.
- Read the ticket for the county, response date, charge, case number, and appearance requirement.
- Search iCourt by citation number or name, then narrow by county and date.
- Confirm the current amount and deadline with the Magistrate clerk.
- If eligible to resolve the case, use iCourt Make Payments, mail, or the clerk's counter as directed.
- To contest it, submit the authorized response before the deadline and attend the scheduled hearing.
- Keep the receipt or order and confirm both the court disposition and any separate ITD action.
Idaho Traffic Court Venue
Idaho uses one clear trial-court structure. The Magistrate Division of the District Court hears filed traffic matters in the county of citation. Idaho has no separate statewide layer of municipal courts or justice-of-the-peace courts. Infractions may be payable. Misdemeanor traffic offenses and DUI follow criminal procedure and any appearance stated by the court.
Parking or local administrative notices may follow the issuing city's process. Once a judicial citation is filed, the county Magistrate case and iCourt become the core court sources. An appeal from a magistrate matter goes first to a district judge.
- Magistrate Division
- Infractions, traffic misdemeanors, and DUI criminal cases found through iCourt and the filing county clerk.
- District judge on appeal
- Appeals from Magistrate Division decisions, kept through the county Clerk of the District Court.
- City process
- Parking or administrative matters not filed as court citations, handled by the issuing city named on the notice.
Idaho Traffic Record Types
Traffic events range from payable infractions to criminal charges and administrative license actions. The event type controls the response, the public file, and whether ITD receives a report.
- Moving violations: speeding, signal, lane, and similar charges can produce a court case and reportable driving event.
- Nonmoving violations: equipment or registration allegations may have different point and correction effects.
- Parking notices: the issuing city may use an administrative process rather than iCourt.
- Commercial violations: CDL holders face state and federal reporting rules.
- DUI: a criminal court charge paired with possible separate administrative license suspension.
- Crash reports: police or ITD records that are not traffic court dockets.
What Idaho Traffic Records Show
The court file follows one allegation from filing through disposition. It can contain information that never appears on the ITD driver record, such as hearing dates, plea, judge, payment history, and a failure-to-appear event.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Citation and case number | Ticket identifier and court case identifier. |
| Charge and statute | Filed allegation and cited legal provision. |
| Agency and file date | Issuing agency and court filing timing. |
| Plea and disposition | Response and result, which are not the same as the initial charge. |
| Hearings and judge | Past or scheduled court events. |
| Fine, fees, and payments | Amounts ordered, paid, or outstanding in the case. |
Search Idaho Traffic Citations
A citation number usually produces the cleanest Idaho match. Preserve leading characters and compare the county. Name searches help when the number is missing, but require checks against the county, filing date, and birth information lawfully shown. A recent citation may need intake time before it appears.
| Search Field | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Citation or case number | Text | No, if name used | Use the exact printed value. |
| Defendant name | Text | No, if number used | Try full legal name and variants. |
| County | Filter | No | Narrows the Magistrate filing location. |
| Case type / date | Filter | No | Separates similar names and older events. |
Pay or Contest Idaho Tickets
Do not assume every citation can be paid online. iCourt Make Payments supports eligible traffic and criminal accounts, while the clerk may direct mail or counter payment. Paying can resolve the allegation as a conviction, which may then be reported to ITD. A mandatory appearance, criminal charge, warrant, or hold requires the court's stated process.
To contest, file the permitted response before the deadline and attend the assigned pretrial or trial. Ask the court about any lawful amendment, withheld judgment, course, or mitigation. Availability is case-specific, and the clerk cannot recommend a defense. Failure to respond can lead to default, collection, a bench warrant in criminal matters, or license consequences.
Idaho Traffic Record Access
Open judicial case records follow Idaho Court Administrative Rule 32. It separates public court material from sealed, exempt, and redacted information. ITD driver records are agency records with protected personal data and authorized-use rules, including federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act limits.
Key Statutes:
ICAR 32 controls access, redaction, sealing, and copies of Idaho judicial records.
Idaho Code § 49-203 authorization is certified on Form ITD 3120 when protected driver data is requested.
Idaho ITD Driver Records
The Idaho Transportation Department DMV maintains the Driver License Record. It reports identity and license data, class, status, issue and expiration, endorsements, restrictions, convictions, points, suspensions, revocations, reinstatement, compliance actions, and CDL information where applicable. It is not a copy of the citation or judge's order.
A county court reports a qualifying conviction to ITD. ITD then posts the licensing event and any point or withdrawal consequence. Processing can create a lag, so the iCourt disposition and driver record may not change together. A person correcting a court result should work with the clerk; a person disputing the ITD record should use the ITD process.
At least two identifiers must match: name, driver-license number, Social Security number, or date of birth. Orders are available through the immediate online route or by Form ITD 3120 mailed to Idaho Transportation Department, PO Box 34, Boise, ID 83707. Certified records cannot be emailed.
The official Idaho DMV source identifies statewide driver services.
Use ITD for license status and driving history, not county case documents.
The ITD ordering instructions explain identifiers, fees, and suspension services.
Those rules protect identity and separate standard, certified, and supporting-document products.
Compare Idaho Traffic Records
The Idaho court file documents one filed case. The ITD record compiles reportable licensing events. Each has a different custodian, correction route, and certified-copy process.
| Record Type | Source | What It Shows | How to Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Court traffic record | Filing county clerk and Magistrate Division | Citation, charge, plea, hearing, disposition, fine, warrant events | iCourt or county clerk |
| Idaho driver record | ITD DMV | License, convictions, points, restrictions, suspensions and coded history | Online DLR or Form ITD 3120 |
| Correction | Office that owns the disputed entry | Court corrects its case; ITD corrects its agency record | Clerk or ITD request process |
Idaho CDL Traffic Records
Commercial drivers face strict state and federal reporting duties. A remedy that may exist for a noncommercial driver cannot be promised to a CDL holder. Convictions can affect the ITD record and federal CDLIS data. ITD and Tyler Idaho also announced an updated commercial Driver Record Dashboard for authorized fleet monitoring.
The official commercial dashboard announcement describes roster and status-change functions.
That business tool does not replace the driver's court file or individual response deadline.
Idaho DUI Traffic Cases
Idaho DUI is a criminal charge. A failed evidentiary test can separately trigger an ITD Administrative License Suspension. ITD says an ALS hearing request is due within seven days of service. A first ALS described by ITD runs 90 days, beginning 30 days after service, with the first 30 absolute and the next 60 potentially restricted. Court and agency tracks must both be resolved.
For the filed criminal allegation, see Idaho arrest and charge records.
Idaho Traffic Case Options
Idaho research does not support a universal promise of traffic school, deferral, or dismissal. Ask the Magistrate court about a lawful amendment, withheld judgment, course, or mitigation for the specific charge. CDL reporting restrictions may narrow options. The written court disposition controls what happened in the case, while ITD determines the resulting driver-record action.
Shielding Idaho Traffic Records
Traffic court access follows ICAR 32 and any qualifying Idaho shielding law. Paying a ticket does not erase it. A court order affecting public case access does not automatically rewrite the ITD driver record, just as an ITD correction does not alter the clerk's docket. Relief is case-specific and should be filed with the office that controls the record.
Idaho Traffic Record Fees
Idaho court-copy fees are clerk-set within governing limits, so obtain a county quote. ITD publishes fixed product prices. Card payment on Form 3120 shows a three percent service fee, and ITD states there is no refund whether a record is found or not.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Court paper or certified copy | Confirm with filing county clerk |
| ITD driver-license record | $7 |
| Certified ITD driver record | $21 total |
| DLR with supporting documents | $14 |
| Certified driver packet with incident date | $28 |
| ITD crash report | $7 plus transaction fee |
| ALS restricted permit / reinstatement | $60 / $245 |
| DUI reinstatement | $285 |
The official crash-report service sells a separate police and transportation record.
Crash reports can take weeks to arrive, and a purchased file must be downloaded within seven days. They do not replace the citation docket.
